The University of Michigan Takes a Professional Trip to New York

The Phi Gamma Nu Delta Phi chapter from the University of Michigan traveled to New York City for a professional development trip in early November. Our members explored career options in business, learned about recruiting timelines, networked with PGN alumni, and gained an understanding of what it would be like to live and work in Manhattan.

Upon arrival on Thursday, our members explored the city and spent time with each other, preparing for company visits the following morning. On Friday morning, members visited Guggenheim Partners, PwC, and Citibank. They attended information sessions and office tours at each company and learned about the roles of each panelist, the culture of each firm, and the next steps for available internship and full-time opportunities. These visits also provided a method for students to engage in conversation with Michigan and PGN alumni.

The chapter hosted an alumni networking dinner at Carroll Place on Friday evening, where current members met PGN alumni. Our participants learned where alumni worked, how they got there, and the aspects of living in New York City that they enjoy. Alumni were also able to share valuable advice for how members can achieve their professional goals and offered themselves as resources during recruitment and career planning. Current members at every stage of their early careers found this opportunity to be immensely beneficial and have enjoyed reconnecting with recent graduates.

After the company visits and alumni dinner, participants had more free time to explore the city and spend time with each other throughout the rest of the trip. At the end of the weekend, members expressed how much they enjoyed and gained from this experience. Many look forward to applying for roles and programs at the companies visited and staying in touch with the PGN alumni they met.
